The Efutu Mampong Village

In the Efutu Mampong village in the Central Region of Ghana, a vast majority of women and girls do not have access to clean water and menstrual hygiene products. This problem makes them vulnerable to sex trafficking. 1 in 5 report participating in transactional sex due to lack of access to safe water and period supplies.

My NGO collaborated with community members to develop a project addressing water insecurity and period poverty in Efutu Mampong village. The project aimed to provide sustainable solutions to improve access to clean water and menstrual hygiene products for women and girls. It involved constructing a water well, installing a filtration system, providing menstrual hygiene education, and distributing reusable menstrual pads.
